Companies often change their stock ticker symbols, so the symbol that they have today may not be the same as what they had last year. Is there a freely available source that shows what ticker symbol a publicly traded company had when?

NASDAQ seems to publish CSV lists of stock ticker symbols and company names for NASDAQ, NYSE and AMEX, but I'm not sure how this data is licensed; I also assume they are only current ticker symbol lists?
