I need to get hold of some UK population statistics that drills down into detail about region, age and gender.

Eg London, Male 25-35 : 2.3% of the population London, Female 25-35: 2.1% of the population ... South West, Male 35-45: 3.4% of the population South West, Female 35-45: 3.2% of the population

Does this even exist? I need it to properly weight a national survey. Maximum kudos to anyone that can help me out!

Solved my own problem - but to those interested, here is the link to the ONS stats page:

Click the link for 'Mid 2009 Population Estimates Analysis Tool'

Great to see you've found something. http://www.data4nr.net/resources/population/541/ also has a direct link, with other breakdowns available via http://www.data4nr.net/resources/population/

This google spreadsheet provides a detailed analysis of the population of England and Wales for 2007 by region, race, age and gender.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tka0nvP9qG60328hPnRqaIA

Published by the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2009/mar/01/population-race based on ONS data.

or better still ,the later article http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/feb/26/population-ethnic-race-age-statistics

Thanks Kit.

I had found that spreadsheet but it focuses on race and the age ranges are rubbish.

(Here is the original article btw http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/feb/26/population-ethnic-race-age-statistics#data)
