What sources (Linked Data or otherwise) are there for population figures? Especially interested in UK areas, but also interested in population statistics worldwide.

England and Wales population data from the Office of National Statistics are available via http://www.neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/ (Excel or CSV download) For Scotland, population data organised by various administrative regions are available to download from the Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics site http://www.sns.gov.uk. I have converted some of it (2001 Census population, by ward) to Linked Data at http://publishmydata.com/doc/dataset/population/scotland/2001-census More Scottish population stats (as Excel/CSV) at the General Register Office for Scotland site http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/statistics/theme/population/estimates/mid-year/index.html For population of countries, you could try the CIA Factbook as LInked Data from http://www4.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/factbook/ |
For country population figures, see CIA world fact book: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ CKAN package for fact-book (further info, link to RDF versions, python code for working with it): |
http://population.psi.enakting.org/ provides Linked Data on the population of UK Parliamentary Constituencies |
The US Census Bureau provides some historical population data for many countries at http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/idb/index.php I've got a feeling, though, that the data is also available elsewhere, possibly in a more easily digestible form. |
